Lesson Information
Lessons days and times
Lessons are scheduled on weekdays during the afternoon and early evening hours. A lesson cancellation policy statement will be provided to the student and family prior to enrollment.
Lessons for new students
Lessons for children aged 3-12 who are new to the violin are taught using the world-famous Suzuki Method. Often referred to as the "Mother Tongue Method" which observes that just as children learn to speak before they learn to read, children listen to recordings of the pieces that they are about to learn, and as the physical skills of holding and manipulating the violin are introduced they gradually acquire the ability to play those pieces of music. Involvement of a parent is key, as the parent serves as the "special everyday teacher". A parent must attend all lessons, take notes, and practice daily with their child in order for the process to be successful. Students at this level take a 30 minute lesson once per week.
As the student progresses, it is necessary for the parent to remain involved to monitor progress. Once the student reaches the end of Book 2 the lesson length is increased to 45 minutes once per week. And, as the student continues to progress through Book 5 the lesson length increases to 60 minutes.
Teenage students usually work independently of their parent.
Lessons for students with previous experience
Students who have a background in the Suzuki Method repertoire and already possess performing skills, as well as those students performing at an advanced level, are evaluated and placed at an appropriate lesson length:
30 minutes: Books 1 through the end of Book 2
45 minutes: The end of Book 2 through Book 5
60 minutes: The end of Book 5 through advanced repertoire
Students at a very advanced level that are preparing for college auditions may opt for a longer lesson length than 60 minutes.
Parents of pre-teen students are expected to attend lessons with their child. Teenage students usually work independently.
Lessons for adult students
Adult students are encouraged to pursue life-long learning through violin lessons, whether as a beginner or as one having had previous experience. Lessons for adults usually begin at the 30 minute length but may be extended depending on the interest of the adult student.
Lesson Fees
Students enroll for blocks of four lessons. The four lesson block fees are as follows for each individual lesson length:
Block of four 30 minute lessons: $100
Block of four 45 minute lessons: $150
Block of four 60 minute lessons: $200
Lessons may be paid by check, cash or Zelle.
